About American Legion Post 460


OUR HISTORY

Originally named, American Legion Post 0460: New York City Police Department Post, was founded on November 11, 1919 by World War I Veterans returning to the New York City Police Department (“NYPD”).

It was recognized as a line organization by the NYPD on August 31, 1920. The post is composed of both active and retired NYPD Officers who have served in the United States Military during times of war.

As of August 1, 2012, the American Legion Post 0460 opened their membership to sworn law enforcement officers who are in good standing at the federal, state and local levels; as well as, Military Police officers in good standing or honorably discharged.

On August 31, 2012 officially changed the Post name to:

American Legion Post 0460: New York Police Post


OUR VISION

AL Post 460’s motto is L.E.A.D.E.R.S.H.I.P.® which stands for Loyalty, Encouragement, Advocacy, Duty, Education, Respect, Service, Honor, Integrity and Perseverance, which the AL Post 460 provides through individual and organizational services for veterans in the law enforcement community.

AL Post 460 holds fundraising events with the goal to raise funds for three of their programs: Veteran Building Skills, Family Involvement and Community Involvement, which bridges the gap between veterans, families, and their community for a healthy transition to civilian life.


OUR MISSION

American Legion Post 0460 mission is to promote a positive momentum for the veterans who served the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as, served within the Law Enforcement Community.

Through comradeship, mentorship and advocacy our efforts will bring veterans together within the Law Enforcement Community to provide leadership for the present and future veterans.

1. Served at least one day of active military duty during the dates

AUG 3, 1990 – OPEN // DEC 20, 1989 – JAN 31, 1990 // AUG 24, 1982 – JUL 31, 1984 // FEB 28, 1961 – MAY 7, 1975 // JUN 25, 1950 – JAN 31, 1955 // DEC 7, 1941 – DEC 31, 1946 // APR 6 1917 – NOV 11, 1918 // U.S. Merchant Marine – DEC 7, 1941 – DEC 31, 1946

and was honorably discharged or am still serving honorably

2. An active, retired or former New York City Police Department Officer

As of 1st of August 2013, the post official name will be American Legion Post 0460 New York Police Post. We are opening our membership to sworn law enforcement officers who are in good standing at the federal, state and local levels; as well as, Military Police officers in good standing or honorably discharged.

3. Application fee of $50.00 will need to be paid before any membership transactions occurs
