The American Legion is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving veterans, their families, and communities. Its purpose is to uphold the values of Americanism, provide comradeship and support to veterans of all eras, and advocate for veterans' rights and benefits. Ultimately, the organization strives to ensure that veterans receive the recognition, care, and opportunities they deserve.

The American Legion Police Post 0460 in New York City plays a vital role in supporting veterans and fostering connections between the military and law enforcement communities. Our mission focuses on several key areas:

• Education: Providing members with comprehensive information about earned benefits, rights, and responsibilities.

• Advocacy: Championing veterans’ causes at the city, state, and federal levels to ensure they receive the support they deserve.

• Mentorship: Supporting veterans as they transition to civilian careers in law enforcement and other fields, offering guidance and resources for success.

• Camaraderie: Creating a strong sense of community and mutual support among members from all branches of the military, including active or retired NYPD members who are active reserve component service members, retired military, or veterans.

• Community Engagement: Building bridges between veterans, law enforcement, and local communities to enhance mutual understanding, respect, and support.
